Time

Manse Everard quotes, "'Tempus fugit.'" (Time Patrol, p. 29) Time flies. There are many evocative sayings and phrases about time that could be incorporated into a work of time travel fiction. Does Anderson quote any more such phrases in his Time Patrol series? Alternatively, could any phrases from this series become such sayings? I have already suggested a "Quotable Time Patrol."

Sayings And Phrases About Time
"Old Time is still a-flying..." (here)

"Time, you old gypsy man,
"Will you not stay?" (here)

"If you can look into the seeds of time..." (here)

"Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
"Bears all its sons away..." (here)

"We have all the time in the world..." (here)

"...no enemy but time..." (here)

"An Englishman needs time..." (here)

Kaor, Paul!

Here's a few more sayings about time, which I took from PROVERBS, MAXIMS, AND PHRASES OF ALL AGE, compiled by Robert Christy (G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York and London: 1888).

Better to take time.
Everything has its time.
He that has most time has none to lose.
Lost time never returns.
There is no appeal from time past.

And many more maxims about time in the book I quoted from!

Paul:
While Louis Armstrong's performance of the song is beautiful, of course, that line has a VERY distressing connotation based on its use in *On Her Majesty's Secret Service*, the James Bond novel ... and movie for which the song was written (the movie actually SHOWS Armstrong performing it; it's not just background music).

Specifically, for the benefit of anyone who doesn't know, Bond said it to his wife of a few hours just before an assassination attempt that missed him but killed her. And then, unable for the moment to accept her death, he said it again as her clutched her body....

David,
For once, the title of the novel was too cumbersome to fit into a song. Therefore, beautiful use was instead made of the concluding line of the novel. And this is the George Lazenby film that I mentioned recently.
